Helensburgh Art Club

Welcome to the Helensburgh Art Club Web Site

Helensburgh Art Club was founded to encourage and develop interest in the Visual Arts and Crafts in Helensburgh and District. Whilst there was an Art Club in existence between the first and second world wars, the first committee meeting was held in 1951. Just click on the History section to get a fascinating insight into the history of our club. We currently have about 250 members who range from total beginners to experienced artists with wide ranging portfolios for painting, drawing and sculpture. Many members just enjoy our programme of lectures and demonstrations.

How do we do this?

We run a programme of illustrated talks, lectures, demonstrations and workshops. We also provide courses to develop members skills and run interest groups to encourage active practice, participation and self-help. We have three main exhibitions a year for the display and sale of members work, the largest being the Annual Exhibition  in August.  We encourage young artists by awarding our Young Artists Prize at this exhibition.  Close links are also maintained with other groups in the community.

Where do we meet?

The Helensburgh Sailing Club on West Clyde Street is the venue for our Thursday evening programme of demonstrations, lectures and workshops. This beautiful location looking across the Gareloch to Cove is in itself an inspiration to all aspiring artists.
